Periodontal disease is a form of a bacterial infection that targets the gums and the bone supporting the teeth. This disease causes the gums to begin to recede which then leads to destruction of the bone supporting the teeth and beneath the gums.

Medical treatments can fix receding gums if you have mild gum recession. The dentist can treat the condition by deep cleaning the gums. Deep cleaning is also root planing. The dental professional removes the tartar and plaque buildup on the tooth. If the condition is already severe the hygienist could perform oral surgery.

Antibiotics are prescribed if the gums have severe infection. Gum disease or Periodontal disease causes vary from one thing to another, prevention is always better than cure. Always follow the dentist’s instruction, have routine dental cleaning to prevent bad conditions inside the mouth.
