What is a tonsil stone? It is a yellowish and whitish colored lumps found in your tonsils. Although this is not introduced much in different walks of life especially those who has below average lifestyles, this condition is connected to your dental hygiene. Tonsil stones also known as tonsillolith is a piece of stone that normally forms in the rear of the mouth, in one’s tonsil. This condition develops accordingly because the tonsil functions as trapper of debris from digesting your food. Not only that the tonsil traps food but also oral bacteria and some old cells from the linings of your mouth surface.
From performing this function, while these bacteria and other debris can be found in the tonsil, the white blood cells take battle with these bacteria trying to break it down and ends up turning into small whitish stones. These stones may not be a sign that your health is deteriorating but if these stones are not controlled and taken out, it will become a lump in your throat that will be dislodged and causes discomfort. You can either cough it out or swallow it. Once you try breaking it down between your fingers, it releases foul smell.
Tonsil stones also leads to difficulty to swallow the food you intake. Aside from this, there are other effects of tonsil stones one might encounter. Although it is not really necessary that you should undergo treatment when you have tonsil stones, one must be careful of other possible medical or dental problem it is connected to. It does not hurt to take care of our oral health properly. Not only that it will prevent periodontal diseases and other conditions like having tonsil stones, it will also save the money you could spend just to have your tonsil stones removed.
