What is Periodontitis?

Also referred to as gum disease or periodontal disease, Periodontitis at its core is a bacterial type of infection that can weaken and destroy the tissue and bone that support the teeth. The mouth produces hundreds of types of bacteria, and the harmful types (called anaerobic, translating to “without air”) can penetrate the gums and begin to attack the deeper tissues of the mouth.
