Preventing Oral Thrush and Other Fungal InfectionsIf you fall within one of the at risk groups for developing oral thrush, then you should take preventative measures. You can easily avoid developing oral thrush, if you follow these tips and protect your health from an overgrowth of Candida albicans. One of the keys to preventing oral thrush from occurring is good oral hygiene. Ensure that you are brushing and flossing using the correct technique shown to you by your dentist. If you wear dentures, then you are particularly at risk of developing oral thrush. Your dentures need to be cleaned as per your dentist’s instructions thoroughly to ensure that Candida is not allowed to grow and multiply in your mouth. On top of this you should visit your dentist every six months for check ups to remove plaque build up and have an overall clean. Mouth wash is a somewhat controversial addition to your oral hygiene routine when trying to prevent oral thrush. Some mouth washes may actually facilitate oral thrush by interrupting the levels of micro flora in the mouth. If you want to use a mouth wash, a 100% pure and natural product is always best. Candida will often develop when your immune system is under pressure. Boosting your immune system will not only prevent oral thrush, but will stop other infections from taking root in your body and causing illness. Taking a multi vitamin daily and reducing stress are great techniques for supporting your immune system. If your defenses are down, then there are herbal immune support supplements such as olive leaf that are very effective. Olive leaf is an excellent choice as it increases your immune system function and also has powerful anti bacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties that can prevent Candida taking hold. If you smoke, you should quit to prevent oral thrush developing. Cigarette smoke interrupts the micro flora in the mouth and can upset the Ph of the mouth. Diets high in sugar may also facilitate thrush growth since Candida yeast that cause an oral thrush infection feed on sugars. Ensuring that you drink plenty of water each day will also prevent many infections in the mouth including Candida, from ever occurring. Some simple measures can be very effective at preventing oral thrush from developing if you are in one of the high risk groups. Most of these techniques will also have knock on effects for your health and vitality.
