Treating Gum Disease at Different Stages

With all of the other things on the average adult's mind, the last thing you want is one more complication to think about. However it would be beneficial to you to learn about treating gum disease now before it becomes an issue for you. The level of treatment depends on how severe of a case of gum disease you are dealing with. As a quick overview of treatment options, we'll start at the earliest detection and then move on to the more serious case options.

  • Good prevention habits
  • Dentist performed procedures
  • Extreme case treatment options

In the very early stages of treating gum disease the best option is prevention. Staying hydrated and eating well is part of the equation. Of course brushing your teeth and cleaning the gums with an all natural dental product are another part of prevention. Before gum disease gets a hold on the natural balance in your mouth, it is important to schedule regular visits with your dentist to stay on top of your dental health. If you think you are too busy to go to the dentist, just imagine how time consuming a lot of procedures and consultations will be. It's a sure bet you can find time with that as an incentive.

Let's say that your gum disease issue got away from you and more in depth treatment is necessary. Treating gum disease at this stage isn't as easy as before, but it still isn't the end of the world. Depending on what your specific problem is the dentist will probably recommend one of three options. The first one is pocket reduction. This involves eliminating the bacteria that causes gum disease. Then the dentist evens out any damage done to the teeth. Eventually the gums grow back over the teeth and the problem is solved. From there regeneration is the next intensive treatment. As before the bacteria is first destroyed and then a genetic specific treatment is applied. The hope is that the damaged bone will then grow back. The most intensive treatment is soft tissue grafts. That one is pretty self explanatory. It can take several attempts for the grafts to take and patients often complain of discomfort during the procedure.

If left without any treatment at all, gum disease can cost you your teeth. After extractions you will have to get dentures or partials to fix your smile. Treating gum disease early is very important. Fortunately there is several successful treatment for gum disease. Increase your chances of avoiding gum disease by using a natural dental product like OraMD®.
