Why Oral Hygiene Prevents Gingivitis
To maintain a healthy mouth and body, we must practice good oral hygiene in order to prevent gingivitis and other problems. These are preventative maintenance steps that must be taken.
Gingivitis can be avoided by killing the bacteria in the mouth. For this to be effective it is important to use a four step program with a product that contains natural oils. The four step program includes: brushing, flossing, gargling, and direct application of a product containing natural oils. The oils contained in this product include: peppermint, spearmint, and almond. The direct application of this product cleans the teeth and gums, kills the bacteria in the mouth, and keeps the bacteria from coming back.
Products such as the one mentioned above are important in preventing gingivitis and maintaining healthy teeth and gums, but there are also other steps that must be taken and certain things that should be avoided to maintain those healthy teeth and gums as well.
Plaque is the main cause of gingivitis, so the removal of plaque is a must when trying to prevent gingivitis. Plaque can be removed with brushing the teeth at least two times a day and flossing daily; however, if the plaque is not removed the plaque will harden into a substance known as tartar. Tartar can only be removed by a dentist and if not removed the tartar can do additional damage to the teeth and gums and result in periodontitis.
Sugary snacks and what we commonly call junk food can also cause oral health problems; therefore, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables provide the appropriate nutrients for the teeth, gums, and bones and make them strong and healthy.
Avoid cigarettes and alcohol. The chemicals in cigarettes mix with the bacteria that is already in the mouth. This produces additional toxins that damage the teeth, gums, and bones. Avoid alcohol as well because alcohol dries out the mouth and makes a perfect atmosphere for bacteria to grow and spread.
Overall, stay on top of the plaque and tartar by scheduling routine check-ups and cleanings with a dentist and practice good oral hygiene at home to abate gingivitis.
