Is there a toothpaste for gingivitis?

There are many toothpaste brands on the market today that claim to fight gingivitis. Many contain harsh synthetic chemicals that can irritate and inflame the gums even more than they may already be. If you suffer from gingivitis, you know that it is essential to find toothpaste that is gentle, and still helps eliminate the bacteria that are causing your gum infection.

Bacteria must be removed in order to prevent a case of gingivitis from turning into something more serious, such as gum disease or periodontitis. Both of which can result in tooth loss, or even the loss of bone and supporting structures to the mouth and jaw.

Gingivitis is a form of gum infection in which an overproduction of bacteria in the mouth that invade the gum line and potentially deeper layers of tissue in the mouth. Gingivitis may start slowly and often a case may go undetected until it has advanced to more serious complications.

In the beginning the gums may swell slightly, or there may be bleeding when the teeth are brushed or flossed. Bad breath, swelling and bleeding gums are the most common symptoms that are experienced and even these may be mild. The largest majority of people who have gingivitis are often not even aware of it unless it progresses further.

It is estimated that nearly 80% of Americans will suffer from gingivitis at some point during their life. Easily corrected through good dental care and brushing and flossing daily, gingivitis does not have to ruin your oral health.

The key to controlling bacteria is killing and removing them daily.

Nature provides a safe, natural solution in peppermint oil. Not like the peppermint flavor that you find in most regular toothpaste though. Real peppermint oil is naturally antibacterial—meaning it kills bacteria in the mouth without other additives and chemicals. Using peppermint oil in conjunction with other natural antibacterial oils is especially helpful. Watch for spearmint and almond oils as well. All are known to remove bacteria from the body effectively.
