Read Label Carefully On Bad Breath Toothpaste!

A bad breath toothpaste or other oral health remedy will not really stop the problem unless it effectively eliminates the underlying cause. This makes finding the ideal bad breath remedy very difficult (if not downright impossible!) because there are a vast assortment of potential causes, including:

  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Post nasal drip and other sinus issues
  • Diabetes
  • Kidney or liver disease
  • Gum disease
  • Tooth decay
  • Infection of mouth or throat
  • Xerostomia
  • Low-carb diet side effect
  • Acid reflux
  • Medication side effect

Despite this high number of potential bad breath causes, nearly 85% of all problems with halitosis originate because of gram negative anaerobic bacteria. Most of your common bad breath products will have some form of antiseptic agent to eliminate anaerobic bacteria.

Alcohol is a very common ingredient to find in bad breath rinses or mouthwash products because it is both inexpensive and helps eradicate anaerobic bacteria. Unfortunately, alcohol and many common chemicals found in bad breath remedies are actually toxic to the body and tend to cause moderate to severe side effects, like dehydration.

Dehydration is a common cause of Xerostomia (dry mouth) and that is a big problem where bad breath prevention is concerned. A dry mouth also means that your salivation rates have declined leaving you vulnerable to halitosis. In time, a recurring or constant problem with bad breath will lead to gum disease and other oral health concerns. Without saliva, the mouth is essentially defenseless when it comes to preventing bad breath and gum disease.

Human saliva will help sanitize the mouth and control anaerobic bacteria in four ways, including:

  • Remove food particles and dead skin cells when swallowing: Bacteria populations will grow larger if food supplies are ample enough and the microorganisms that cause bad breath feed upon leftover food particles from meals along with the dead skin cells in your mouth. When saliva is adequate, you can swallow and remove food and thus indirectly control anaerobic bacteria population levels. While not a bad breath cure, this essential function of saliva will dramatically reduce problems.
  • Lower Reproductive Rates of Anaerobic Bacteria: Anaerobic bacteria, by nature, do not reproduce well if the environment is enriched in oxygen. Saliva, helps lower bacteria population levels because it is rich in oxygen so it will help stop a bad breath problem before it even starts!
  • Antibodies: Saliva is also rich in special enzymes that stimulate the production of antibodies that seek out and destroy anaerobic bacteria.
  • Removes Sulfur Compounds: Hydrogen Sulfide, Dimethyl Sulfide, and Methyl Mercaptan are common compounds excreted by anaerobic bacteria and they are the true sources of odor in halitosis. By simply swallowing, you remove these compounds and treat bad breath.

Curing bad breath is technically impossible because there will always be anaerobic bacteria in your mouth. To prevent halitosis and gum disease you must maintain good oral hygiene, drink plenty of water, and use bad breath toothpaste and other oral health products made with all natural ingredients that control bacteria. OraMD® is a safe and effective bad breath remedy made from all natural ingredients (Spearmint, Peppermint, and Almond Oil) that neutralize bacteria without causing dry mouth and other irritating and potentially dangerous side effects.
